A TEENAGER whose best friend died in a car accident has had her head shaved to raise money for her pal’s favourite charity.

Gemma Wood, 19, says Esther Walters would have found her startling new look “hilarious”, and she’s managed to raise £1,275 for the Honeypot children’s charity, where Esther did work experience.

The teenager, who grew up in Fordingbridge but now lives in Salisbury, is also trying to raise £1,000 for Breast Cancer Care, and has so far raised £145.

South Wilts Grammar School pupil Esther died in a crash on the B3078 in June 2011, as she was on her way back from work at Sandy Balls holiday centre. She was 17.

Miss Wood's mother Vanessa said: “We would be so happy for her to reach her target for Breast Cancer Care after my very brave and special girl doing this in memory of her friend. I am so proud of her.”
