TWO pensioners were rescued from a bog near Ringwood last week.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on a road near a Burley car park.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) was called out at 4.54pm last Thursday to Smugglers Road car park after reports that a couple were stuck in the mud after going out for walk.

Two helicopters were sent to help locate the stricken pensioners and rescue them.

A spokesman for HFRS said the pair were freed at around 6.10pm. Both escaped without serious injury and were pronounced fit and well following a check-up by medics.

Two emergency vehicles from Burley and Ringwood attended the scene while special equipment vehicles were also on the scene including one from Eastleigh, two from Fareham and one from Lyndhurst.

In total 25 firefighters attended the incident.

Burley resident Simon Rowley said the car park was packed with ambulances and fire and rescue teams.
