THERE were wagging tails all round for scores of dogs from the Salisbury area who scooped prizes at this year’s Crufts. An Irish wolfhound belonging to rock star Sting and his wife Trudie Styler was one of the winners at the annual event held at Birmingham NEC over the weekend.

The couple, who live in Wilsford-cum-Lake, saw Dukesarum Tegan crowned winner of the post graduate category.

Breeders Craig Kerry, Peter and Zaina Hopgood and Louise Turner, from Amesbury, are celebrating after Staffordshire bull terrier puppy Mysticbulls Storm Trooper of Antroboss won first place in the special puppy category. The animal also won reserve best puppy in breed.

The breeders’ other dog, Starolestaff Mystic Mimi of Antroboss, came third in a puppy bitch class. The dog challenge certificate was awarded to Lionscourt Couer De Lion of Brynarian, a Leonberger better known as Balthazar, owned by Louise Baldwin.

Jean Collins-Pitman, from Salisbury, has been to Crufts with her gordon setters for the last 30 years, and this year saw Amscot Rebel with a Cause come first in the field trial category. And Charlotte Woodward, from Wilton, took centre stage with her Lakeland terrier Mercedes.

She was awarded the Young Kennel Club’s (YKC) John MacDougall Quaish award, given to a YKC member who has shown considerable promise and dedication in a range of disciplines.

She was nominated for the award after impressing all her trainers at the annual YKC summer camp last year with two of her Lakeland’s, Ziggy and Ruby. “I am absolutely delighted to win this award,” she said. “They are the most amazing dogs and I am so very proud of them.”
