AN eight-year-old girl is set to walk up two of Britain’s highest peaks to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

Tamara Hubbuck, from Bulford Camp, is planning to walk up England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, and the UK’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis.

She said: "I am looking forward to climbing Scafell Pike and I know it's going to be extremely hard. The bit I am looking forward to most is getting up to the summit and looking out at the views. Most of all, I hope I will have raised some funds for Diabetes UK."

Tamara was inspired to carry out the challenge for Diabetes UK after her grandmother was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and a friend with Type 1 diabetes. Tamara hopes to raise £200 for the charity.

She and her parents, Richard and Sarah, will be tackling Scafell Pike, in the Lake District, on Friday, April 18, which they expect to take them about ten hours.

They then plan to head to Scotland for Ben Nevis later in the year.

Mr Hubbock, who is in the Royal Military Police, said: “This is a big challenge but Tamara really loves walking. “We have already walked up Snowden last year, when she was only seven, and she had no problems with it. She is really looking forward to walking up Scafell Pike. As it will be more challenging than Snowden, I am doing a lot of planning to make sure it is safe.

“It was Tamara’s idea to fundraise for Diabetes UK after seeing both her grandmother and a good friend affected. She is very thoughtful and we are very proud of her.”
