A SHOT putter from a Salisbury School bagged a silver medal at the Indoor National Athletics Championships held in Sheffield.
Sophie Merritt, a fifth year student at Godolphin School competed in the U17 shot put finals at the competition, missing out on gold by just 5cm and achieving a personal best of 12.59m.
Sophie, who is currently studying for her GCSEs, trains six times a week in Southampton. She does two weight sessions at the gym and four throwing sessions, leaving Salisbury immediately after school for training, and then getting home at about 9pm when she settles down to do her homework and study.
Her dream is to represent Great Britain at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
After her A-levels, she aims to study sports psychology in the United States and has already received offers from two well-known US universities.
