THE watering holes of Salisbury have been mapped out, London Underground-style.

A map called Pub Stops of Salisbury shows the location of village pubs and city centre bars in a style similar to the famous London Tube map.

More than 100 pubs feature on the map, with coloured “tube lines” suggesting possible routes for a pub crawl.

It has been created by John Coates, a maths teacher from Sheffield who started devising the Pub Stops maps seven years ago in his spare time.

“I have to admit to being a bit taken aback at its success,” he said. “These are obviously a great gift item, but I think there is also something about the local pub and the way that pubs are such important landmarks in our cities that appeals to people.”

Mr Coates’ first design was for his home town of Sheffield but others soon followed and there are now around 40 maps in the series.

The Salisbury poster has been produced in association with the Ringwood Brewery.

The Pub Stops of Salisbury poster is available from pubstops.co.uk, the Ringwood Brewery Shop and the Salisbury branch of Waterstones.
