A WOMAN is trying to trace long-lost relatives from the Figheldean area. Teresa Jordan, 60, has already managed to track down some relatives from Fordingbridge after appealing through the Journal and is hoping to have similar luck again.

After asking for any information on her great aunt Bessie Barrett, who ran a printing works in Fordingbridge with her husband Alec Douglas, Mrs Jordan was put in touch with Bessie’s daughter Pat Parr, who lives in Bournemouth, and also received information about her paternal great grandparents.

Now she is trying to uncover information about her maternal grandparents, who lived in Figheldean.

She said: “I have some interesting stories related to them, one being my great grandmother Maud Buckland who became Maud Carter, being widowed young and going to collect buckets of stones on Salisbury Plain - she earned so many pennies a bucket to try to clothe and feed her family.

“She also washed clothes for the soldiers at Netheravon.

“My grandmother Violet Howard, nee Buckland, went to school in Figheldean.”

Anyone who knows of Maud or Violet, or has any information about the family can contact Mrs Jordan, who lives in Southampton, on 02380 320379 or email tbjordan@ntlworld.com.
