A CELEBRATION of youth and music took place at Salisbury Cathedral last Friday, with guest violinist Tasmin Little.

The event was part of Godolphin School’s Inspiring People series, in conjunction with the English Speaking Union (ESU).

Almost 800 people attended the concert, which featured musicians and choristers from the Salisbury Youth Orchestra; Godolphin’s orchestra, school and prep choirs, Vocal Ensemble and Voices; Leaden Hall Choir; Downton Primary School Choir; St Edmund’s School Chamber Choir and two choirs from Salisbury Cathedral School.

The musicians attended a masterclass given by Little in the afternoon and then performed alongside her in the evening.

Little, a world renowned violinist, spoke of the opportunities given to her through the generosity of the ESU’s scholarship programme and the work she does with less privileged children through music and the Kids Camp charity.

More than £12,000 was raised through the concert, which will be shared equally between ESU, Kids Camp and the Salisbury Cathedral Choral Foundation.

It was a coup to secure the virtuoso Tasmin Little. It was an outstanding concert and the talent and concentration displayed by the young musicians was breathtaking. Well done everyone who was involved.
