John Reading, Xavier Champeau and Linda Herbert all named Volunteers of the Year

THREE forest stalwarts have been honoured for their work with forest charities.

John Reading from the Ringwood & Fordingbridge Club for the Blind, Linda Herbert, driver for Community First New Forest and Xavier Champeau from New Forest and District Sailability were all given the New Forest Volunteer of the Year Award.

Community First New Forest Volunteer Centre hosted the New Forest Unsung Heroes volunteer celebration event at Hoburne Bashley, New Milton to celebrate the invaluable work, commitment and dedication volunteers give to the community.

Between them, the 130 people from 28 voluntary organisations who attended had amassed 1,969 years of voluntary service between them.

Cllr Christine Ford, chairman of New Forest District Council and president of Community First New Forest, presented the certificates and Tanya Brierley gave an inspiring talk about her experiences, both as a volunteer and in her role helping others to volunteer.
