A CRANBORNE vet who has appeared on TV has won a national award.

Luke Gamble has helped many creatures from around the world to feel better, and his work has been documented as part of Sky series Vet Adventures.

Mr Gamble, who is based at Pilgrims Veterinary Practice, has won the Charity Professional of the Year Award 2014 at Ceva’s Animal Welfare Awards.

The accolade recognises his international animal charity the Worldwide Veterinary Service, and particularly its work on Mission Rabies, in which thousands of creatures were vaccinated.

Mr Gamble said: “It is a huge honour to win this award and it really is a reflection of the great teams that I work alongside and the charities that I have the privilege of being associated with.

“Worldwide Veterinary Service will now have to prove itself worthy of this award and we are working hard on projects such as Mission Rabies to champion animal and human welfare around the world.

“For me, charity work is a wonderful escape from working in practice but I also get a huge kick out of making a difference in places where there are limited veterinary resources.”
