THE New Forest’s world-renowned landscapes and wildlife will be celebrated this summer as sculptors, painters and photographers compete for prizes in a local art competition.

The New Forest Open Art competition is back after a successful inauguration in 2013.

Budding artists who take inspiration from the National Park are being invited to enter the contest, which is run by the New Forest National Park Authority in partnership with the New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst.

Submissions should be made on July 11 and 12 ahead of the exhibition from July 26 to August 30.

The prizes are: First prize – £500, Second prize – £300, Third prize – £100, People’s Prize – £100 and a feature in sponsors Park Culture magazine.

Hilary Marshall, New Forest Centre manager, said: “We want to see the work of painters, photographers or craftspeople who are inspired by the Forest and to give them an opportunity to showcase their work. A substantial number of people visit the Centre every year and the New Forest Gallery is a great place to reach a wide audience.”
