A MAN whose life was saved by an emergency doctor is embarking on a fundraising challenge for the third week running.

Chris West is cycling on a static bike to fundraise for the volunteer doctors from BASICS Hampshire – one of whom, Sarah Assheton – helped saved his life three years ago. This Saturday he’ll be in Ringwood.

He’s already done nearly 100 miles and raised more than £200. Next month he’ll be riding a racing bike with a fundraising team all the way to Paris.

And next Monday his efforts will be doubly recognised by the patron of BASICS Hampshire, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Dame Mary Fagan, when she celebrates the work of BASICS Hampshire doctors and the support of their fundraisers.

Mr West said: “I was exhausted after doing four hours of cycling in Fordingbridge – but everyone was so supportive. I’ll be trying again in Ringwood next Saturday – it’s all good practice for the fundraising run to Paris.

“And it’ll be an honour to meet Dame Mary next Monday – and I’ll also get to meet the doctor who saved my life.”
