TWO community fundraisers raised nearly £2,000 in Verwood at the weekend.

A “Colossal Cake Sale” raised a whopping £742.39 for Help for Heroes, which supports service personnel.

Hundreds of cakes were baked by well-|wishers and sold by volunteers.

Lynne Wilkins was the lucky winner of the showstopper cake and Pat Morrow won the second prize, a duck cake, while all unsold cakes were donated to Waypoints care home.

Firefighters raised an amazing £1,200 washing 123 cars in five hours at the station.

The money will go to the Firefighters’ Charity and to the Fordingbridge Air Cadets, of whom many are from Verwood.
