MP Claire Perry met with representatives from Girlguiding UK in Westminster to discuss the #BeBodyConfident campaign and the work of the organisation.
Mrs Perry found out about research indicating that girls’ body confidence is reaching crisis point, with one in three girls unhappy with their looks and one in five girls aged seven to 11 having dieted.
She said: “As a former Brownie, I was eager to meet the leaders of Girlguiding UK, which is the largest organisation for girls and young women across the country, with more than 500,000 members and which is giving a real voice to the problems and concerns of girls across the country.
“I know from my work as the Prime Minister’s special adviser and as a mother of teenage girls just how important self esteem is for young people and I am really happy to be able to support the #BeBodyConfident campaign.”
