A FOLK band with a national reputation is set to play a free concert at a village church this Sunday.

The Young’uns will be playing at St James’ Church, Alderholt, with locals able to share some music in between their sets.

The rocking church, which has only just held a three-day festival headlined by the pop act Dodgy, is again expected to pull in the crowds. The Young’uns got their name more than ten years ago, when they began singing together at their Stockton-on-Tees folk club.

Their mixture of musical ability, original and traditional songs – and stage banter – has made them a folk|phenomenon at clubs, gigs and festivals up and down the country since they turned professional a few years ago.

Vicar Pip Martin said: “They draw a crowd wherever they go and we are delighted to welcome them to the|village and to a church building that musicians of all kinds say has amazing atmosphere and acoustics.

“As a church we try to do all the traditional things well but also to bring to the community something different, thoughtful, celebratory, passionate, creative and inspiring – and The Young’uns tick all those boxes, plus they make you laugh.”
