A LEUKAEMIA patient from Salisbury is preparing to take part in a charity triathlon.
Brian Kemp, 48, is training for the Blenheim Palace Triathlon to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
Mr Kemp was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL) while on holiday in Canada in September 2012.
He underwent five weeks of chemotherapy before being flown home and transferred to Salisbury District Hospital for further treatment and is currently in remission.
Mr Kemp said: “I was made aware that my prognosis for survival had improved dramatically thanks to medical research and the development of new drugs funded by charities like Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
“They not only provided information about the disease for my family and friends on the other side of the world, but I quickly realised that their fundraising activities were directly helping people like me to beat blood cancer.”
Less than a year after finishing chemotherapy, Mr Kemp is looking forward to taking on the triathlon alongside his wife, Chris. The couple are hoping to raise £5,500 for the charity.
