RETIREMENT home developer McCarthy & Stone has revealed the name of its new development in Amesbury.
The complex on the site of the former Co-op store will be called Queen Eleanor Court after Queen Eleanor of Provence who was Queen Consort of England in the 13th century and is buried at the Abbey of St Mary and St Melor in Amesbury. The name was suggested by the Amesbury Society, which aims to increase knowledge of the town’s history.
Construction of the 33 one and two bedroom retirement living apartments for over the 60s is now underway.
Jacqui Meenan, sales and marketing director for McCarthy & Stone, said: “We pride ourselves on building communities and not just homes, so we always aim to select names for our new developments that will have real meaning to the local residents.”
Bill Dunn, secretary of the Amesbury Society, added: “The society is delighted that McCarthy & Stone took our suggestions on board and has decided to name their new development Queen Eleanor Court. Queen Eleanor was the wife of King Henry 3rd and the name has such local significance as she died and is buried in Amesbury."
