Park for free on Sundays and bank holidays
SHOPPERS in Salisbury are being reminded they can park for free on Sundays and bank holidays.
The Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID) has been working on initiatives to support local traders to increase the number of visitors to the city. Culver Street car park is now free, with 528 spaces available just a short walk from the city centre.
The car park is easily accessible from all common travel routes including the ring road and the A30.
This step has been implemented to attract more shoppers, visitors and diners and it is hoped that other car parking initiatives will follow.
Steve Godwin, Salisbury BID afternoon/evening economy manager said: “We’re delighted to have been able to work in partnership with Wiltshire Council to secure free parking on Sundays and Bank Holidays at Culver Street, and to help support our local businesses. “Free parking on those days is the perfect opportunity for local residents and visitors to take advantage of all that Salisbury has to offer.
“Whether for a meal and a show, a relaxed afternoon shopping, or visiting one of our exceptional museums, visitors can make the most of their weekend.” The Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID) comprises more than 550 businesses.
They pay a levy and have a vote on how the proceeds are reinvested into the city for the benefit of the member businesses.
The BID aims to raise £2m over five years to be invested in projects chosen by businesses within the Salisbury ring road to boost the area’s vitality and began in April.
The BID is focusing its activity on five main work streams: marketing and promotion; events; access and car parking; welcoming, safe and clean; and business support.
