By Annie Riddle A REQUEST for a 20mph speed limit in part of Harnham has been supported by city councillors.
A residents’ survey has shown strong support for the limit to be introduced in Upper Street, Middle Street and Lower Street.
The city council’s planning committee agreed last Tuesday to support an application to Wiltshire Council, which is the highway authority.
Cllr Ian Tomes, who carried out the survey with colleague Patricia Fagan, said: “We got about 100 replies of which 70 per cent were in favour of a 20mph limit.
“The reasons people gave were that there are several blind spots, children, dog walkers and old people walking where there is no footpath, and there are often ducks in the road.”
The pair carried out a similar survey around Shady Bower, Milford Mill Road and Manor Farm Road, which was also backed by the committee.
Wiltshire Council’s area boards have to evaluate all the requests put forward and each can choose two a year to be implemented.
