THE sounds of bells, trumpets and dustbin lids could be heard in Great Wishford on Thursday morning as villagers celebrated Oak Apple Day.
They walked into the woods and visited Salisbury Cathedral where they renewed their right to collect fallen timber from the wood by calling “Grovely, Grovely, Grovely and all Grovely.”
In the afternoon there was a procession and a fete.
Oak Apple Club chairman Ruth Miller said: “We were delighted with the success of the day, particularly by the number of people who contributed to making it happen.”
