A WOMAN'S battle with lymphoma was the inspiration behind a family fun day that raised £3,200 for the Pembroke Ward at Salisbury District Hospital.

Billy Waters organised the event after his wife Fran was diagnosed with the disease about five years ago.

“The weekend was emotional, and I am touched by how many people came along to support the event,” he said. “It goes to show we have a strong community spirit. Castledown Radio has been brilliant in promoting and supporting the event; in fact, everyone's been brilliant.”

Despite the pouring rain on May 24 the crowds turned out to watch local bands and acoustic acts on stage at the Queen's Head pub in Ludgershall.

There were also activities for children, games, refreshments and stalls.

Pettastic, based in Andover, donated £200 to the Pembroke Unit and brought along a selection of animals for the public to hold.
