A FUN day in Ringwood has been hailed a big success after thousands turned out for the community event.

The HOPE: Across the New Forest Ringwood Family Fun Day, held at Bickerley Common last Saturday, was organised by Churches Together in Ringwood.

Organisers estimated that more than 4,000 people visited the free day to enjoy the entertainment on offer.

There was lots to see and do, from classic cars and fire engines to face painting and bouncy castles, arts and crafts. There were displays in the arena and live bands.

Everyone involved gave their time for free.

The organiser was the Revd Adam Skirton, who said: “It was an incredible event, the ground at one end was rather soggy so we had to move everything to the other end, but it was all great. So many people kept asking why we did it for free, but this was just a small reflection of the love of God, which was freely given to us.”

The event was backed by the council and businesses around the area.

Similar events were held across the country as part of HOPE 2014, with the Local Evangelical Alliance in the Forest (LEAF).

LEAF administrator Brian Edgeley added: “It’s great to see people working together for good and especially good to see the church uniting to bless the community in which they are called to serve.”
