LEADEN Hall School pupils got a chance to try out what it might be like to be a firefighter on a visit to see Blue Watch at Salisbury Fire Station.

The nursery class children were shown around the fire station, looked at the fireman’s pole and tried on some helmets. They got to sit in a fire truck, go up in the crane and were even able to hold the hose and spray some water.

A spokesman for the school said: “They had a fantastic time, learned about a very worthwhile job and picked up a few fire safety tips as well.”

• Year 5 pupil Rose Warren is through to the National Athletics Championships in Birmingham in a few weeks to represent Wessex in the 1500m. Rose stormed to victory in the Senior Wessex Championships in Bournemouth last week, recording a PB of 5:26.1, despite competing a year above her age. And Anna Payne, also in year 5, recorded a personal best and took third place in the 800m final, also competing a year above her age.
