SALISBURY’S newest primary school is celebrating after it was given the official stamp of approval by Ofsted inspectors just three years after it opened.

Old Sarum Primary School was judged to be ‘good’ in every area including leadership, management, teaching standards and pupils’ attainment and behaviour.

Headteacher John Jones said the Ofsted report was a tribute to his staff, the support of governors and parents and the efforts and enthusiasm of the children.

“Our motto is reach for the sky and we’re on our way”, he said.

The report states: “The school rightly puts a high priority on making learning as enjoyable as possible.

“Behaviour is good and pupils are polite, friendly and considerate to others. They are well motivated, settle to their work quickly and enjoy their learning.”

The inspection also found: “Expectations of staff and pupils are high within a supportive and caring environment – reflected around the school in the interesting displays and tidy classrooms, and in the typically neat presentation of pupil’s work.

“Governors are effective and knowledgeable. The headteacher, senior leaders and governing body work successfully together to drive improvements across the school.

“Parents and carers are proud of the school and the way it has developed in the community over its first three years. The whole staff create a family environment in which all pupils feel well cared for.”
