Local support for Gaza

First published in News by

A PETITION calling for an end to the bombing in Gaza collected 350 signatures in Salisbury on Saturday.

Members of Sarum Concern for Israel/Palestine were collecting signatures outside the Guildhall calling on the Government to put pressure on the Israeli Government to stop the bombardment of Gaza.

So far more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and at least 40 Israeli soldiers during the attacks and many people are calling for a ceasefire.

The Sarum Group are sending their petition to Salisbury MP John Glen, but as well as signatures from his constituents they also collected signatures from Europeans and even someone from Australia.

They collected signatures for two-and-ahalf hours and paused at 11am and noon to pray for peace and justice.

The group thank everyone who signed the petition and local traders who supplied coffee.

More events are being planned for the World Week for Peace in Palestine/Israel on September 21 to 27.

Remember how this conflict kicked off - :

Hamas firing 2,000 rockets indiscriminately at Israel.

Israel has a moral & legal right to defend itself & stop the rockets.

Hamas refused several cease-fires, because they wanted to carry on firing their rockets, using schools & hospitals as cover.

Over 500 hamas rockets have fallen short of Israel, landing in Gaza, & killing Palestinians.

We must show solidarity with Israel.

'Remember how this conflict kicked off'

Yes, you have to go back a while though...

"In the late 1800s a group in Europe decided to colonize this land. Known as Zionists, they represented an extremist minority of the Jewish population. Their goal was to create a Jewish homeland, and they considered locations in Africa and the Americas, before settling on Palestine."

Before this happened...

"Finally, in 1947 the United Nations decided to intervene. However, rather than adhering to the principle of “self-determinatio
n of peoples,” in which the people themselves create their own state and system of government, the UN chose to revert to the medieval strategy whereby an outside power divides up other people’s land.
Under considerable Zionist pressure, the UN recommended giving away 55% of Palestine to a Jewish state – despite the fact that this group represented only about 30% of the total population, and owned under 7% of the land."

'Hamas firing 2,000 rockets indiscriminately at Israel.'

Indiscriminately?

If your country is invaded and occupied, see previous historical facts, then you have the right to seek to liberate your country.

'Israel has a moral & legal right to defend itself & stop the rockets.'

No it doesn't. See the previous historical facts plus the illegal occupation of another's country and the illegal blockade of the remainder of the country you are occupying. The number of United Nations resolutions Israel is breaking?
66...

"These resolutions, which now number 66, contain the international community’s list of indictments against the Jewish state. The basic issues were all spelled out even before the 1967 Security Council resolution calling for a land-for-peace settlement."

'Hamas refused several cease-fires, because they wanted to carry on firing their rockets, using schools & hospitals as cover.'

Hamas, as the legally elected representatives of the Palestinian people along with Fatah, have the right to accept or refuse Israeli offers of a 'cease-fire' which invariably turn out to be nothing more than lulls in the genocide while Israel re-arms and re-supplies it's air force, army and Navy. Of course the Palestinians want to carry on trying to liberate their country, wouldn't you?.

'using schools and hospitals as cover'

I would like t point out that the Israeli IDF headquarters is also surrounded by a civilian population and furthermore...

"International law also bans the use of medical units or prisoners of war to deter enemy attack.

However, even if Hamas were violating the law on this matter, it would not legally justify Israel's bombing of areas where civilians are known to be.

"Any violation of these prohibitions shall not release the parties to the conflict from their legal obligations with respect to the civilian population and civilians, including the obligation to take the precautionary measures," the conventions say."

To put this slaughter of women and children into perspective let's look at the facts...
Palestine does NOT possess an air force, a navy, tanks, armoured vehicles, helicopters, nuclear weapons, chemical and biological weapons, spy drones, attack drones, spy satellites, missile defence systems, ballistic missiles etc...

Israel has all of these and is using them indiscriminately under the guise of 'defence' to eliminate the remainder of the Palestinian people. I find it particularly repulsive and revolting to see news clips of Zionists laughing and cheering as the IDF missiles and rockets hit UN schools and hospitals and comments that support the killing of children playing football on a beach.

No, let's not show 'solidarity with Israel' for Israel has become that which it despised, a political ideal which is leading to genocide and the holocaust of the Palestinian people in this case.
