Determined, thoughtful, diplomatic.

Who was your childhood hero and why?

Peter Lorimer, the ex-Leeds Utd player – he had the hardest shot in football.

What is your most precious possession and why is it important to you?

I don’t value possessions much, but two things spring to mind, a 1997 entrance ticket to a German exhibition where I met Michaela my fiancée (it still sits in my wallet.) And a Conference South play-off winner’s medal given to my family by Brian Dutton.

What was the first record/CD you bought?

Leo Sayer, “The show must go on”. Kind of appropriate now some 40 years later, in the circumstances.

What is the radio/television show you hate to miss?

Match of the Day.

If you could change one thing about the place where you live, what would it be?

It would be a lot bigger, and have a 3G pitch so I didn’t have to cut the grass before Ryan demands his nightly football session.

Is there anything you are superstitious about?

No, don’t believe in superstition.

What is your favourite word?

Yes.

And your least favourite word?

No.

If you were choosing a last meal, what would it be?

An English breakfast.

If you had one wish what would it be?

Salisbury City are Conference South next year and we manage to stay in that league.

Is there a place in the world you would like to visit above all others?

I have been fortunate in my career to visit a lot of places, but Mauritius is one place I haven’t and would love to. What do you wish you were good at?

Football.

If you had a million pounds to give away what would you do with the money?

Urm, silly question in the circumstances.

If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be?

Nelson Mandela. In a small way I helped the BBC programme Ground Force design his garden water feature, and that may be closer than most, but alas I did it from 5,000 miles away.

If you had a time machine where would it take you?

Is there someone well-known you’ve met who really impressed you?

Steve Claridge. Such a down-to-earth man, and totally interested in what’s right in football. Charlie Dimmock, likewise, is a real, genuinely nice woman who I am very pleased to have known.

If you were stranded on a desert island what luxury would you choose?

3G and my phone!

If you owned a company what kind of company would it be?

I do, and it would be the company I own with the employees I have.

What sports team do you support?

I can’t believe you’re asking me this?!

What was your first job?

A YTS scheme looking after country parks, the likes of Danebury Ring, Chilboltons, West Down and others. What is your proudest moment?
