After recent outrage by some traders in Salisbury, due to what they see as the excessive cost of the BID, the Journal takes a look at the work they have done for the city. Since they launched in April they have:

  • Introduced free parking in Culver Street car park after 3pm and all day on Sundays and bank holidays.
  • Employed a city ranger to respond to the needs of businesses and keep them informed of events and initiatives and respond to any street-related issues such as dirty streets, bills not collected and abandoned supermarket trolleys.
  • Employed an afternoon/evening economy manager to work with businesses in developing the life of the city, particularly the 5pm-7pm gap when the city is quiet
  • Installed counters to measure the footfall in three places in the city Promoted events such as the International Arts Festival, St George’s Day event, Salisbury Contemporary Craft and Heritage Fayre, the Salisbury Fashion Week and Purple Flag Week, which also includes a business networking event.
  • Promoted various events on a monthly basis.
  • Incorporated the Christmas market as part of BID operations.
