THE Salisbury Chocolate Bar and Patisserie shop closed its doors today (Wednesday) after almost 30 years of trading.

A sign posted on the door of the independent chocolate shop said it was with a “heavy heart and deep regret” that the director had taken the decision.

It stated: “The shop has had several changes in ownership but has always maintained its market position as the only independent supplier of Belgian chocolates in the city centre.

“Unfortunately, over the last five years Salisbury has suffered a significant downturn in business. Attempts to revive trade, in particular to support the independent trader, have all been too little too late.

Wiltshire Council has a very narrow-minded approach to small local traders that were once the backbone of the city. The increased parking charges have made Salisbury into one of the most expensive places to visit and coupled with the demise of independent traders there is very little attraction left.”

The director, John Lambourne-Richardson,  thanked his loyal staff, customers and friends that have supported him over the last two years.

Mr Lambourne-Richardson was the director and co-owner of the popular High Street shop.
