Local Hero Awards 2014
FORESTERS Day Centre in Salisbury was the winner of the Community Group Award.
The centre in Stratford Road cares for up to ten people a day, with activities ranging from arts and crafts to short walks and the use of tablet computers.
It was nominated by one of the volunteer community transport drivers, who often takes elderly clients to the centre, and said they were all treated with dignity, respect, understanding, discretion and a great deal of humour.
Day support manager Alison Millar, who collected the award with day support worker Juliet Johnstone, said: “We are thrilled to have been given the award – it will mean a lot to everyone.
“It’s for all the team and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the person who nominated us.
“We hope to give people a good day and prove people can live well with dementia for many, many years and it also gives families an important break.”
The Community Group Award was sponsored by Gracewell Healthcare.
