A 23-YEAR-OLD from Durrington hopes to raise thousands of pounds for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance by trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro.

Jonathon Read is currently in preparation for the challenge early next year by climbing mountains in Snowdonia.

He said: “I’ll be trekking with a group of 38 others for six days through scorching deserts, dense forests and below freezing mountain ascents.

“Our goal is to raise £100,000 and in order to achieve this we must raise at least £3,500 each.

“With no government financial support, the air ambulance relies solely on public donations yet pays £125,000 per month just to maintain the service.”

The trek will begin on February 7.
