A DOG mutilated and killed two sheep in a field off Devizes Road, Salisbury, on the morning of October 25.

The sheep were attacked, dragged and killed by a chocolate Labrador which was seen in the area.

The farmer was very distressed to find the mutilated sheep and fears it will happen again.

PC Emma Higgins said: “Dog owners must keep their pets under control at all times, not only for the benefit of other animals but for the safety of other people.

“It is an offence for a dog to ‘worry livestock’ which includes attacking sheep, chasing them in a way that may cause injury or suffering.

“This is not the first time that sheep have been killed by dogs in this area and each time it is very upsetting for the farmer and has a financial impact.

“Dog attacks affect not only the injured or killed livestock, but other animals also suffer from the stress of the incident.

“It can be easily prevented by dog owners avoiding areas where there are sheep or cows and keeping their dogs on leads when passing these fields.

“We are working with the local dog warden to identify the owner of this dog and I ask that anyone with information comes forward.”
