A SALISBURY bus company has invested £1.5 million into eight new double decker buses after seeing a huge increase in demand for its services.

Salisbury Reds launched the new buses in Guildhall Square yesterday with Salisbury MP John Glen.

Company managing director Andrew Wickham said: “Bus travel in Salisbury is popular - and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to look forward to our centenary celebrations next year by investing heavily in our fleet here.

“We would not have been able to embark on this commercial venture if it weren’t for the high demand we’ve been experiencing in Salisbury.”

The buses will be used on the Red 1 service and are fully accessible.

* Salisbury Reds will be running the Red 1 service throughout Boxing Day this year for shoppers wishing to take advantage of the sales.

The first bus leaves Salisbury District Hospital at 9.23am and buses will run at least hourly throughout the day until 6.23pm. The opposite service leaves Bemerton Heath at 8.51am - with the final bus at 6.51pm.

Passengers will also have easy access to Bournemouth, with morebus running its X3 service throughout Boxing Day.  For the full timetable over the festive period visit salisburyreds.co.uk
