SALISBURY’S big Christmas light switch on is tomorrow (Thursday) with EastEnders star Steve McFadden pressing the all important button, fireworks and festive numbers.

The evening begins at 6pm with a performance by local band Young Brando – recently back from supporting McBusted on a seven-week UK tour.

They will be followed by local vocalist Jenni Monday with some festive numbers to get everyone singing along before a welcome from the Salisbury mayor councillor Jo Broom and a blessing from Salisbury Cathedral’s Canon Chancellor, Edward Probert.

A Salisbury City Council spokesman said “We then welcome on stage Steve McFadden who plays Phil Mitchell in the BBC One Soap EastEnders to join Father Christmas in the official countdown and switch on. This will be followed at around 7pm by a large firework display.”

Local covers band Innervision will then take to the stage and sing both festive songs and hits from across the decades to close the evening’s event.

In order to help with the large numbers both Blue Boar Row and Queen Street will be closed to vehicles during the event.
