TWO visually-impaired little girls from Verwood spent a session on a Ringo at the Snowtrax Alpine Activity Centre courtesy of the Dorset Actionnaires Club – part of the Action for Blind People charity.

The session was designed to give the young people a chance to boost their confidence, trying a sport not normally accessible to children with sight loss.

Amy, 7, attends the club’s monthly sessions with her sister Emma.

She said: “The Ringos were great fun.

“Zooming down the hill is exciting but it’s hard work pulling the rings back up again.”

The Actionnaires club provides a range of sporting and social opportunities for children aged 4-16 with sight loss.

The club meets once a month and all activities are free.

Jo Phillip from Action for Blind People said: “At Action, we are always trying to give children, young people and their families the opportunity to take part in a variety of interesting, unusual and fun activities.

“By making friends, sharing experiences and feeling good through success, the self-esteem and belief of our young members is improved.

“The alpine activity event is one of many different sporting activities that have shown youngsters like Amy that having sight loss doesn’t limit you from doing sports and activities that a fully sighted person might take for granted.”
