THE Salisbury man brought into revive the flagging fortunes of the Co-Operative Group and a Salisbury-born QC are among the 850 new names in the 2015 edition of Who’s Who, published today.

Salisbury-born Richard Pennycook, 50, who became chief executive of the troubled Co-Operative Group earlier this year, and Salisbury-born barrister David Lewis, 37, who was made a Queen’s Counsel earlier this year, line up alongside, among others, Sir Mick Jagger’s ex-wife, Bianca Jagger, television presenter Julia Bradbury and entertainer Paul O’Grady, who are also making their first appearances in Who’s Who.

Inclusion in the world-famous reference book, which contains potted biographies of 33,000 of some of the best-known, most talented and most accomplished individuals, is by invitation only, so this is an honour for all the newcomers.

Richard Pennycook was born in Salisbury on February 26, 1964, and has been finance director at JD Wetherspoon plc, the RAC, and William Morrison Supermarkets.

He was hired by the Co-Operative Group as chief financial officer in 2013 and became the company’s chief executive officer earlier this year.

David Lewis was born in Salisbury on April 23,1977, and has been a barrister, specialising in commercial law since 2000.

He is the father of twins and, in Who’s Who, lists his recreations as “sport, music, tickling the twins.”

Everyone in Who’s Who, with the possible exception of the fugitive peer ,Lord Lucan, who vanished in November 1974 but who nevertheless retains his place in Who’s Who, is invited to compile his or her own entry, so entries can be as long or as short as celebrities wish.

The entries of the Salisbury pair are brief and modest.

Mr Pennycook explains his life in just eight lines, while Mr Lewis crams everything into six lines, which is five lines fewer than the eleven-line entry of Prime Minister David Cameron, eight lines fewer than the fourteen-line entry of US President Barack Obama and nine lines fewer than the fifteen-line entry of Pope Francis.
