FORDINGBRIDGE Surgery unveiled a commemorative plaque in honour of the life and work of two local GPs.

The plaque and memorial tree were in memory of Drs Tom and Rae Straton.

Their son Peter was in attendance at the ceremony with his sister and other close family members.

He said: “The family are honoured and delighted that mum and dad have been recognised and commemorated in this way with the plaque and the tree.”

A second plaque was unveiled, marking the surgery’s historic move from its premises in Horseport to the current premises in Bartons Road in 1993, and to acknowledge the funding of the re-designed car park last year from patient donations to the Friends of Fordingbridge Surgery charity. The chairman of the Friends group Jackie Lydford said: “The Friends’ trustees are delighted that the surgery has erected the plaque.

“It is a tribute to the generosity of all the patients who donated to make the car park improvements possible. “In addition, as ex-surgery manager, I can say that it is long overdue that we commemorate the opening of the impressive new surgery.”
