THE Journal is launching an urgent plea for more gifts for this year’s present appeal to spread Christmas cheer throughout the city.

Hundreds of presents have already been donated, but we still need about 60 more to make sure no one misses out this Christmas.

Women and children are well catered for, but there is a shortage of gifts for men.

We are calling on anyone who has not yet contributed to the campaign to spare a thought for those who otherwise might not get a present.

Editor Bill Browne said: “Our readers have once again excelled themselves with their generosity.

“However, with days to go now, we are hoping for a final push in one particular category and that is gifts for men.

“Any assistance you can give us in making sure those men who might be facing the festive season alone or without something to give them a little Christmas cheer will be greatly appreciated.”

All it takes is for readers to choose an extra gift when doing their Christmas shopping, wrap it and attach a label saying if it is for a girl, boy, man or woman and giving a rough age of the person it is meant for.

Even simple things like toiletries, chocolates or warm clothing are gratefully received and every gift is handed straight to someone who is in need.

Feel free to also attach a greetings card.

Bring wrapped gifts to the Journal office in Rollestone Street over the next few days and they will be collected by the charities just before Christmas so they can be handed out before the big day.

If you are bringing gifts on Saturday please ring ahead on 01722 426511 and someone will come down to collect it from you.

There is still time to make a difference and put a smile on someone’s face this Christmas.
