AUDREY Hepburn, Santa and an Oompa Loompa were among a colourful selection of stars at Salisbury 6th Form College last Wednesday as staff and students held a fancy dress day.

The day was in aid of the Stars Appeal Breast Cancer Campaign and raised more than £112.

Student services manager Rosie Roberts said: “Staff and students were asked to donate money in return for coming to college dressed in a festive theme or as their favourite film stars.

“We had a whole range of creative costumes with Emmet from the Lego Movie and Elvis among them.

“The community spirit was really felt at the college on the day as everyone came together to support a local community project.”

The Stars Appeal aims to raise £750,000 for a dedicated breast care unit at Salisbury District Hospital and thanks to the efforts and support of Journal readers, the total has already passed £350,000.

The new unit will help patients receive faster diagnosis and be treated in a purpose-built environment.

It will also include counselling rooms for women who have just been told they have cancer and will mean patients will no longer need to visit other departments or repeatedly dress and undress for mammograms and scans.
