A FANCY dress wheelbarrow race is being held on New Year’s Day in memory of a special little boy who died when he was just nine weeks old.

The event at Hampton Park Green in Salisbury starts at midday and will be raising funds for the Harvey Warren Trust.

Organiser Chris Warren said: “The race is all about having fun, raising a few pennies for charity and starting the New Year in a positive and enjoyable way within our local community so please come along to participate, help or spectate.

“We would very much like to encourage teams to be sponsored to race and sponsorship forms are available at the OneStop shop or to download online from www.harveywarrentrust.co.uk. The rules are also available online.

“There will be a prize for best dressed team and wheelbarrow, for the winning team and for the team collecting the most sponsorship - wheelbarrows can be provided if required.”

Mr Warren and his wife Claire set up the trust after little Harvey died last July from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

The trust raises funds in Harvey’s name for charities associated with babies, children and SIDS.

“For nine weeks and three days, Harvey was the sunshine in our lives. We can never bring little Harvey back but in his memory we hope to help prevent tragedies like this happening to others.”

Last year the trust benefitted The Stars Appeal – Caring for Kids, The Lullaby Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The fundraising race will consist of three laps of the green and involve a wheelbarrow and up to five people.
