AN application to build a side extension at 46 Tournament Road, Bemerton, has been approved by the Southern Area Planning Committee.
The house which is currently let out for shared living, will be converted to into four one-bedroom flats.
Susan Sneddon, who owns the house, said how Salisbury has a big shortage of affordable flats for single people.
The division councillor for the area Ricky Rogers and the city council spoke of opposition to the project on the grounds that the flats would be too small and worries about the parking situation.
Councillors, however, were broadly supportive of the development, saying that they saw a need for small apartments in the Bemerton area.
The committee voted seven votes to one in favour of the application with two abstentions.
