PEOPLE who struggle to afford parking in Salisbury could be interested in a |different and sometimes cheaper way to bring their car into the city.
JustPark.com, a website that allows people who have a spare car parking space in the city centre to rent it out for the day, is offering a way to undercut expensive |council parking.
Car parking spaces near Salisbury city centre can be found for as little as £3.50 a day, with some residents |letting their spaces out on a weekly or even monthly basis.
Currently 24 locations are listed in Salisbury, with the service growing rapidly since its launch in America in 2006.
It currently has 600,000 registered UK users and 150,000 parking spaces listed.
It follows a similar model to other sites such as Airbnb which has seen an explosion of growth in recent years as a way of funding cheap |holidays by renting spare rooms or apartments.
On JustPark users can browse through available spaces and will leave reviews commenting on the price, location or the friendliness of the owner.
Jerome Renouard, 35, rents his driveway which is a short walk from the |cathedral and described it as a “nice little earner”.
He said: “I rent one space on a monthly basis and the other is rented out mainly at weekends to tourists.
“With the cost of car parks in the city JustPark is becoming really popular.
“Hopefully this will drive some business back to the city because the cost of car parking is killing the |economy.”
The company is also |looking for an environmental future with some driveways also being installed with electric charge points, although none are yet |available in Salisbury.
