FOUR-time Olympic champion and America's Cup winner Ben Ainslie was on hand to officially open the new sports hall at Sandroyd School in Tollard Royal.
The new purpose-built building includes specialist gymnastic equipment, badminton courts, four indoor cricket nets, dance, football, indoor hockey and netball facilities.
It will also provide space for martial arts, shooting, squash and access to the indoor swimming pool.
Headmaster Martin Harris said: “We are thrilled to have Sir Ben visit us to celebrate the official opening of this fantastic new building.
“Over the past few wintery months, children have already put the sports hall to good use playing a whole range of sports indoors.
“We wish Sir Ben lots of luck for his exciting venture in trying to bring back the Americas cup to Britain.”
He also unveiled the school's new development plans, which include a memorial cloister, a new studio and renovation of the sports pavilion.
