THE creator of hit show House of Cards is setting off on a solo 150-mile walk to raise funds for a paralysed Wylye rugby player.

Lord Michael Dobbs will be doing the walk over the course of a week, starting from today (Friday) in support of Jack Fishwick.

Jack and his family are neighbours of Lord Dobbs in Wylye. Lord Dobbs also attended the same school in Hertford as Jack’s GP father John.

Lord Dobbs said: “Jack’s courage and resilience is awesome.

He manages to smile and even find humour in his situation.

“I would like to do my bit to help. Something that's not going to be too easy, and might even hurt. That's why we devised the idea of a solo walk.”

Jack, 27, is tetraplegic, meaning he is paralysed from the chest down, and faces spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

He suffered the injury playing rugby for Wimbledon RFC in March 2014.

Lord Dobbs added: “It will be around a quarter of a million steps, in order to help Jack take what might be the single biggest step of his life – making the transition back to living independently.”

The funds raised for Jack will support him in fulfilling his ambition of returning to live independently and running the sports rehab business that he co-founded.

The Walk4Jack campaign will also be raising money for RFU Injured Players Foundation, which helped provide Jack with equipment and rehabilitation support.

Michael’s journey will begin in Wiltshire with a fundraising breakfast at The Bell Inn, Wylye, with Salisbury MP John Glen and other supporters.

It will finish eight days later at the Richard Hale School in Hertford where he will be met by Steve Pound MP.

During his journey he will be stopping at the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre at Tedworth House in Tidworth and at the Houses of Parliament where he and Jack will be received by The Lord Speaker, the Paralympian gold medalists Baroness Grey- Thompson and Lord Chris Holmes, as well as members of the Lords and Commons Rugby Team.
