WOODLANDS Primary School is celebrating after being presented with an Artsmark Gold Award.

The Arts Council of Great Britain award recognises the commitment of staff, students, parents and governors in providing an enriched, broad and balanced curriculum of art, drama, music and dance, both inside and outside of school.

Headteacher Matthew Kitley said: “This award is the culmination of much hard work and inspirational teaching and learning. I’m really proud of all the staff and students. This award demonstrates the diversity of the educational provision at Woodlands and highlights our commitment to providing a rounded education for all students.”

The school has previously staged school productions in the Salberg Theatre, held an arts day with the local secondary school and exhibited work in the Young Gallery in Salisbury Library.

It says only six per cent of schools in the country have been awarded Artsmark Gold.

Gill Leake, the school's Artsmark co-ordinator, added: "All year groups have worked hard in dance, drama, music and art throughout the year to make this award possible."
