MORE than 40 people attended a special three-mile sponsored walk on Saturday in the Chalke Valley with Michael Beck and Wally the Wheelbarrow.

Michael, 82, has raised an incredible £212,368 for the Stars Appeal over the last 11 years by taking part in sponsored walks and collecting several times a week at the hospital and livestock market.

Although under strict orders not to complete the journey on foot, due to having undergone an operation the week before, he was able to start it before travelling the route via car and then getting out to finish it.

Event organising committee member Andrew Reis said: "It was a great success and it looks like it raised in excess of £2,000."

The walk started in Fifield Bavant and ended with a light lunch at the Queen's Head in Broad Chalke.
