WELL-known radio presenter Ceri Hurford-Jones has taken on a new role at Salisbury Playhouse by providing the ‘Voice of God’ for the theatre’s new production of Little Shop of Horrors.

This fun-filled monster musical opens with a booming voice coming out of the darkness and Spire FM boss Ceri was asked to give the almighty performance.

“I’m a huge fan of Salisbury Playhouse and come here all the time to watch shows,” said Ceri. “But to be asked to record something that is actually going to open one of their productions is a new experience for me and something I’m very excited about.

“I might be a lay canon at Salisbury Cathedral but never thought I’d get to play the Voice of God!

After rehearsing with musical director Richard Reeday, Ceri recorded the part under the direction of Gareth Machin, artistic director at Salisbury Playhouse.

“Ceri is obviously very well known for his work at Spire FM and I didn’t have to think too hard about who to ask to provide the ‘Voice of God’ for our new production of Little Shop of Horrors,” said Gareth. “I’m delighted that he agreed to do it and it will be an additional treat for our audiences.”

Little Shop of Horrors also stars Ben Stott, who appeared in the West End production of Wicked, as Seymour and Frances McNamee (Royal Shakespeare Company) as Audrey.

This production includes man eating plant puppets, dazzling dance routines, a live band and a huge range of songs and music.

Little Shop of Horrors opens on Thursday, April 23 and runs until Saturday May 16.
