A CLIMBER from Salisbury has been airlifted from Everest after the Nepalese earthquake left her stranded on the mountain.

Jo Bradshaw was attempting to become the first woman to climb both Everest and neighbouring peak Lhotse, the worlds fourth highest mountain, back to back.

The powerful 7.8-magnitude quake struck on Saturday causing avalanches on the world's highest mountain with the ladders at Khumbu icefall destroyed by the cascading snow and ice.

Jo had been attempting the challenge with fellow climber Rolfe Oostra to raise money for Place2Be — a schools based mental health charity.

In an update on their Facebook page today (Monday) they confirmed that they had been airlifted off the mountain.

It said: "We've just received a text from Jo's Mum. Jo has rung her this morning, Jo and Rolfe were helicoptered out from C1 to Base Camp this morning.

"They are both well. Taking stock now and searching to see if they can find any of their kit and equipment. We'll post any more news as soon as we get it. Keep sending those good thoughts around."
