THE city became alive with history on Sunday as knights and dragons gathered to mark St George's Day.

In addition to reenactments, the popular event included Morris dancing, live music, fair rides and a Punch and Judy show.

It began with a civic parade led by the mayor of Salisbury, Jo Broom and the city councillors followed by the performers and artists taking part in the day.

City council clerk Reg Williams said: "It went extremely well. We were really pleased with the turn out which was definitely in four figures."

People were able to watch the trial of St George Vs the Dragon in the historic Oak Court Room situated in the Guildhall and enjoy cream teas as well as food from a variety of stalls and the entertainment of jesters and musicians.

This year, the Salisbury City Council event was supported by the Salisbury Business Improvement District and involved additional entertainment such as arts and crafts in the Old George Mall and circus skills in The Maltings.
