HUNDREDS of Scouts took the streets to celebrate St George's Day with a parade on Saturday.

Nineteen groups from Tisbury to Winterslow and Downton to Bulford walked from Salisbury Cathedral to the cricket field in Harnham, led by the Bishop of Ramsbury, Ed Condry.

St George's Church was celebrating its 900th anniversary with a medieval fair.

There were knights jousting, archery, canoeing, llamas, plates smashing and even a bicycle that made smoothies.

Between 500 and 600 scouts re-made their promises and county commissioner Olwen Brockway presented an award to Bob Jones for his efforts in organising the event.

District commissioner David Waspe said: "It was a good community event.

"What scouts want to do is get involved in the local community. Lots of people who weren't scouts came down and it was a good advert for us, and of course the kids were brilliant as well.

"We thoroughly enjoyed it."
