YOUNGSTERS from Learning Curve’s Princes Trust Team programme spent the day at Bermerton Lodge Care Home.

Six young Princes Trust members organised games of cards and bingo for residents in the garden, helped by donations from Smyth’s Toy Store and Tesco on Southampton Road.

Team leader Gemma Snell said: “It’s important that younger people spend time with others in their community, it brings them further out of their comfort zone and they have found it extremely rewarding.

"It’s not only benefited our team members but the residents, I believe one resident is still talking about winning bingo.”

Activities coordinator, Ali McConnell, said “The residents really enjoyed the activities.

"This really gives the residents sense of being in the community and getting involved, it would be nice to see more of this in care homes”

Team members have been working towards Level 1 Certificate in community skills, teamwork and employment skills.

During their 12-week course, these young people have battled through an adventure residential, taking part in raft building, canoeing, night navigation and problem-solving tasks.

They have also selected community groups to benefit from their hard work, raising money for and renovating the garage unit at Salisbury Fire Station for SERVE ON to operate from.
